Database Manager is web-based database management for the SQL Server and MariaDB databases of your Windows hosting service. You open it from the client area; it runs at your own domain.
Open Database Manager
- Open Databases on your service page and select Database Manager next to the database. You can also use the link under Connection details on Overview.
- Sign in with the database's own login and password, not your client area login.
It opens at https://dbadmin.example.com/, with your own domain in place of example.com, once your domain points to the server. You see the objects of your own database; other customers' databases stay out of sight.
Import data
Database Manager imports these files into your database:
| File | Use it for |
|---|---|
.bak | A SQL Server backup, also one made on another server |
.bacpac, .dacpac | A SQL Server data-tier export or package |
.sql | A script of tables and data; one made for another database name is converted to yours |
.csv, .tsv, .json, .xlsx | Table data from text, JSON or Excel files |
To import a file you already uploaded to your hosting, open Database Manager from the client area: then it can read files straight from your hosting folder.
Verify: the tables you imported appear in the database with the rows you expect.
Export a backup
Database Manager does not export .bak files. For a SQL Server database, use Export in the database's menu in the Databases tab; see databases on Windows hosting.
Troubleshooting
Login failed. Use the database's login and the password you set when you created it.
The Database Manager address does not open. Your domain must point to the server first; see point a domain to your server.
Next steps
- Create databases and connect your site: databases on Windows hosting.
- Copies of everything: back up and restore on Windows hosting.
Frequently asked questions
Which login do I use?
The database's own login and password, not your client area login.
Can I bring a database from another server?
Yes. Database Manager imports .bak, .bacpac, .dacpac and .sql files, and table data from comma or tab separated text, JSON and Excel files. A .sql file made for another database name is converted to yours.
Can I export a .bak file here?
No. Use Export in the Databases tab of your service page; see databases on Windows hosting.
Can other customers see my database?
No. You see only the objects of your own database.
