A copy of your own is the one you control: stored away from the server, kept as long as you like. You make backups in the Backups tab of your service page.
Step 1: Create a backup
- Open Backups and select Create Backup.
- Choose what to include: Website files, Databases and Mail.
- In Note, you can write why you made it, such as
Before the update. - Select Create Backup and wait until it finishes.
Verify: the backup appears in the list with the state Ready and a plausible size.
Step 2: Download a copy
In the backup's row, select the download icon and keep the file on another machine.
Step 3: Restore a backup
- Select Restore in the backup's row.
- Choose the parts to bring back. Mail is off by default.
- Select Restore And Replace and wait until it finishes.
Verify: open your site and check the data you restored.
Next steps
- One database only: databases on Windows hosting.
- Before each release: deploy an ASP.NET site.
Frequently asked questions
What can a backup contain?
Your website files, databases and mail. You choose which of them when you create it.
Can I restore only my database?
Yes. The restore form asks which parts to bring back; everything you do not choose stays as it is.
Who is responsible for my data?
You are. Keep your own copies of what matters, on another machine.
When should I make a backup?
Before you deploy a new version of your application, update a plugin or change a database, and regularly while your site changes.
