Plugins, permissions and versions
Rising World servers grow with Java plugins and a permission system you control.
Java plugins
Plugins use the official plugin API and run on the server, from small helpers to whole game modes.
Permission groups
Each group is a JSON file; assign players with the spg command and set the default group for new players in server.properties.
RCON
Enable remote control on its own TCP port, 4253 by default, to run commands without joining.
New and legacy versions
The server runs the new version by default; the legacy Java version and older builds stay available on their own Steam branches.
Players on every PC
Rising World supports cross-platform play between Windows, macOS and Linux.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Rising World server free?
Yes. The dedicated server is a free Steam tool (app 339010) that installs with an anonymous SteamCMD login, for Windows and 64-bit Linux.
Which version of Rising World does the server run?
The new version, on the default branch of the server tool. The legacy Java version stays available on the java branch for worlds that still use it; players must run the same version as the server.
Which ports does the server use?
4255 on TCP and UDP for the game. The query port is always the game port minus one, 4254 TCP, and the server needs it to appear in the server list. RCON uses 4253 TCP if you enable it.
How much RAM does the server need?
The Rising World wiki recommends at least 1–2 GB for small servers with few players and 4–8 GB for more players. The world file grows with every build, so leave disk space too.
How do I make someone an admin?
Rising World uses permission groups stored as JSON files. Put a player in the admin group with spg followed by their name or Steam ID and the group name, then reload with reloadpermissions.
Can I add plugins?
Yes. Rising World has an official Java plugin API with public documentation. Plugins run on the server and can add commands, protection areas or whole game modes.
Can Mac and Linux players join?
Yes. Rising World runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and supports cross-platform multiplayer between them.
Is Rising World finished?
The game is still in Early Access on Steam and updates regularly; the server tool was last updated in September 2026. Update the server whenever the game updates.
Can I manage the server remotely?
Yes. Enable RCON on its own TCP port, 4253 by default, and send console commands without joining the game.
