Hytale server hosting for your community

Run the official Hytale server for your friends or your community. Mods run on the server, so players join a modded world without managing mod packs, and the server can back up your worlds while it runs.

  • Official Hytale server software on Java 25
  • Server-side mods: asset packs and Java plugins
  • Automatic backups and a built-in updater
  • Per-world rules for PvP, fall damage and NPCs
PortHytale uses the QUIC protocol over UDP, not TCP. Change the address and port with the --bind option.
5520 UDP (QUIC)
RuntimeHypixel recommends the Adoptium (Temurin) build of Java 25.
Java 25 on x64 or arm64

BackupsTurn them on with --backup; --backup-dir sets the folder and --backup-frequency the interval in minutes.
Built in, every 30 minutes by default
VersionsPlayers are rejected when their protocol version differs from the server’s, so update the server right after each release.

Hytale plans are being prepared

How much RAM does a Hytale server need?

Hypixel names 4 GB as the minimum. Players and NPCs drive the CPU load; view distance and the loaded world area drive memory use.

Starting points built on the 4 GB minimum of the Hytale Server Manual; Hypixel publishes no figures for larger servers. Test your -Xmx value: frequent garbage collection under load means the server needs more memory.

Mods, worlds and server tools

Hytale is built for server-side modding: you install mods on the server, and players join without managing mod packs of their own.

Asset packs

Blocks, items, NPCs, loot and world generation defined in JSON, plus models, textures and sounds. Put the .zip packs in the mods folder.

Java plugins

Server-side .jar plugins can change core gameplay systems. Install plugins you trust, and rebuild them when Hypixel changes the network protocol.

CurseForge and the Mod Browser

The Hytale Server Manual names CurseForge as a source for mods, and since Update 6 the game also has a Mod Browser in its main menu.

Worlds and their rules

Every world in universe/worlds has its own config.json for the seed, PvP, fall damage, NPC spawning and the gameplay preset.

Backups and updates

Turn on automatic backups with --backup, and let the built-in updater install new versions when the server is empty.

Several servers, one community

Plugins can refer players to another server, so lobbies and minigame servers work without a separate proxy.

Set up your Hytale server

Four steps from a fresh server to your first players.

  1. Pick a size

Start from the table above: 4 GB is the minimum, and many players, a high view distance or plugins need more.

  2. Pick a location

Choose the one closest to your players from our 20 game server locations.

  3. Sign in and set your rules

Authorise the server once with /auth login device, then set your rules in config.json and in each world’s config.json.

  4. Invite your players

Share the server address and UDP port 5520 so your players can add the server and join.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Which port does a Hytale server use?

UDP 5520 by default. Hytale uses the QUIC protocol over UDP, so only UDP has to be reachable. Change the address and port with the --bind option.

How much RAM does a Hytale server need?

The Hytale Server Manual names at least 4 GB. Many players and NPCs raise the CPU load, and a high view distance raises memory use. Start with the table above and adjust the -Xmx value if you see heavy garbage collection.

Which Java version does the server need?

Java 25. Hypixel recommends the Adoptium (Temurin) build, and the server runs on x64 and arm64 machines.

Do players need to install the server’s mods?

No. Hypixel built Hytale around server-side modding so that players can join a modded server without downloading external mods, and it does not plan to support client mods.

How do I install mods on a Hytale server?

Put the mod files (.zip asset packs or .jar plugins) in the server’s mods folder and restart the server. CurseForge is the main place to find them.

Why can players not join after a game update?

The client and the server must use the same protocol version. The launcher updates players straight away, so update the server right after each release; the built-in updater can check, download and apply the new version with the /update commands.

Why does the server ask me to sign in?

A Hytale server must be signed in to a Hytale account before players can join. Run /auth login device in the console and confirm the code within 15 minutes.

How do backups work?

Start the server with --backup to turn on automatic backups. They run every 30 minutes by default; change that with --backup-frequency and the folder with --backup-dir. Worlds and player data live in the universe folder.

Where are the whitelist, bans and permissions kept?

In whitelist.json, bans.json and permissions.json in the server folder. The server reads its files at startup and may overwrite changes made while it runs, so stop it before editing them by hand.

What view distance should I use?

Hypixel recommends at most 12 chunks, which is 384 blocks. The loaded area grows fast with view distance, and memory use grows with it. Since Update 6, the game shows players the server’s maximum view distance when one is set.

Can one server run several worlds?

Yes. Every world in universe/worlds runs on its own main thread with its own config.json. Plugins can also send players to another server, so a lobby with separate game servers needs no proxy.

Is Hytale still in Early Access?

Yes. Hytale entered Early Access on 13 January 2026 and gets stable updates every few weeks. Update 6 arrived on 27 August 2026 with Hardcore mode, Spectator mode and the Mod Browser.
