Self-hosted apps on a server that is yours

Keep your files, photos, passwords and media on a server you control instead of someone else’s cloud. Run the open-source apps you choose on a HyperDC VPS, VDS or dedicated server, preinstalled as an app option when you order or installed with our guide.

  • File sync, photo backup and media streaming
  • Password manager, VPN and DNS ad blocking
  • Several apps on one server with Docker
  • Root access and locations on three continents

Self-Hosted App Hosting

Every app runs on a HyperDC VPS, VDS or dedicated server with full root access. Plans appear on each page as soon as they are online.

Why run your apps on a server instead of at home

A home server is a fine start. A server in a data center adds a public address, steady power and a fast connection in both directions.

Reachable from anywhere

A public IP address means no port forwarding, no dynamic DNS and no blocked ports from your home provider. Phones and laptops connect from anywhere.

Always on

Power, cooling and network are the data center’s job, so your apps stay online while your computer at home is off.

Upload speed for sharing

Home connections are often slow upstream. A server sends files, photos and video to others as fast as they arrive.

Root access, your rules

Every Linux VPS, VDS and dedicated server comes with full root access: you choose the versions, the add-ons and the security settings.

Preinstalled or with our guide

Choose the app as an option when you order and it is installed for you, or set it up yourself with our step-by-step guide.

Backups included

Free weekly and monthly backups come with every VPS and VDS plan. For data that changes every day, keep copies of your own as well.

Locations on three continents

Run your server in the United States, Europe or Asia, close to the people who use it. The order form estimates the latency from where you are to each location.

Room to grow

Start on a VPS and move to a bigger plan, a VDS with NVMe storage or a dedicated server when your data and users grow.

Which server fits your apps?

Most self-hosted apps are light; photo libraries, media and many users are what raise the need. Start with the column that matches your plans.

Starting points based on each project’s published requirements: Immich asks for at least 6 GB of RAM and 2 cores, Nextcloud for 512 MB per PHP process, while Vaultwarden and AdGuard Home run in well under 1 GB. Check each app’s page for its own figures.

Start your self-hosted setup in four steps

From the order to the first login.

  1. Pick your apps

Open the app pages below and note what each one needs. Several light apps can share one server.

  2. Choose your server

Pick a VPS, VDS or dedicated server in the size from the table above and the location closest to your users.

  3. Install the apps

Choose an app option when you order, or install Docker and follow our guide for each app. CasaOS gives you an app store in the browser.

  4. Add your domain and TLS

Point a subdomain such as app.example.com at the server’s IP address and serve the app over HTTPS with a free Let’s Encrypt certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
What does self-hosted mean?

A self-hosted app runs on a server you control instead of on the app maker’s cloud. You install it, you decide who has access and your data stays on your server.

Can I run several apps on one server?

Yes. Run each app in its own Docker container and put a reverse proxy such as Caddy, Traefik or Nginx Proxy Manager in front of them, so every app gets its own subdomain and certificate. Plan the memory for all apps together: Vaultwarden, AdGuard Home and WireGuard fit on a small server, while Immich or Jellyfin need room of their own.

Do you install the apps for me?

Each app will be available as an option when you order, so the server arrives with the app installed. Until the options are online, our guides walk you through the installation step by step, and our team can tell you which server size to choose. You keep full root access either way.

Which operating system should I choose?

A current long-term release such as Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS or Debian 13. Docker, CasaOS and the apps on this page support them, and they receive security updates for years.

Who keeps the apps up to date?

You do, as on any server with root access. With Docker, an update usually means pulling the new image and restarting the container. Read each app’s release notes before major updates, and take a backup first.

Why not use a home server or a Raspberry Pi?

You can, and many people start that way. A server in a data center is reachable without port forwarding, keeps running during power cuts at home and uploads at data-center speed. Some apps, such as Home Assistant with Zigbee radios, still need a device at home; their pages explain how the two work together.

How do I keep a self-hosted server secure?

Log in with SSH keys, keep the system and the containers updated, open only the ports you use and put every web app behind HTTPS. Admin pages and DNS resolvers should not be open to the whole internet: limit them to your own addresses or reach them through your VPN.

Can I move my existing data to the server?

Yes. Files can be copied with rsync or the app’s own client, Immich has a command-line tool for uploading whole photo libraries, and Vaultwarden imports exports from other password managers. Each app page lists the way that app supports.

Ready to run your own apps?

Tell us what you want to run and for how many people, and we will help you pick the right server.
