How big should a Rising Storm 2 server be?

Player count drives the load: a full 64-player battle needs far more than a clan training night.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Is there an official Rising Storm 2 dedicated server?

Yes. Tripwire ships the Rising Storm 2 dedicated server as a free Steam tool (app 418480). It runs on Windows and takes about 21 GB of disk.

How many players can a Rising Storm 2 server hold?

Rising Storm 2 is built for 64-player battles. You can run fewer slots for clan nights; the full 64 needs the most memory and CPU.

Which game modes are there?

Territories, where one side attacks objectives in order; Supremacy, where both sides fight over objectives; and Campaign, which plays out across a series of maps.

Can I use Workshop maps?

Yes. Rising Storm 2 supports the Steam Workshop. Subscribe the server to the maps and mutators you want and add the maps to your map cycle; players download them when they join.

Does the Rising Storm 2 server run on Linux?

No. The dedicated server is a Windows build only, so it runs on a Windows server.

Is the game still updated?

Yes. The 1.7 quality of life update arrived in July 2026, followed by hotfixes up to 1.7.4 in August 2026. Update the server after each patch so players can join.

How do I manage players and maps?

Through WebAdmin, the browser panel of Tripwire’s Unreal Engine 3 servers, where you change maps, kick or ban players and edit the map cycle.

Is there anti-cheat?

Yes. The game client runs Easy Anti-Cheat, and players connect to the server through it.

Can I make the server private?

Yes. Set a game password and only players who know it can join, for clan training or closed events.
