Bannerlord plans are being prepared

How much does a Bannerlord server need?

TaleWorlds sizes custom servers by game type rather than by player count. Small modes need half of what the large modes need.

Game types, admin tools and maps

Everything the official server offers for running your own battles.

Six game types

Set GameType to Siege, TeamDeathmatch, Captain, Skirmish, Duel or Battle, and register maps for each type with add_map_to_usable_maps.

Map voting and rotation

Fill the voting pool with add_map_to_automated_battle_pool and set how many battles run with set_automated_battle_count (-1 for no limit).

Web panel

Manage the server and use its terminal in a browser at the server address and port, protected by your AdminPassword.

In-game admin panel

Join as Admin to change map, game type, time limits and player limit, set friendly damage and class limits, and kick, ban or mute players.

Custom maps

Put maps in the Multiplayer module’s SceneObj folder; players download them from the server over TCP 7210.

Modules

Players need the same modules as the server: a module mismatch stops them from joining. TaleWorlds’ modding documentation covers custom game modes.

Set up your Bannerlord server

Four steps from token to the first battle.

  1. Generate your token

In the multiplayer lobby, open the console with ALT + ~ and type customserver.gettoken. Put the token file on the server; it expires after three months.

  2. Pick a location

Choose the one closest to your players from our 20 game server locations.

  3. Write your config

Set ServerName, GameType, Map and an AdminPassword in a ds_config file, then add your maps to the rotation and the voting pool.

  4. Start and join

Run start_game_and_mission, then find the server in the custom server list or join as admin with a right-click.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
What does a Bannerlord custom server need?

The Mount & Blade II: Dedicated Server files from the Tools section of Steam and a login token created in the game. Anonymous hosting is not supported: the token links the server to a Bannerlord account.

How do I get the login token?

Log in to the multiplayer lobby, open the console with ALT + ~ and type customserver.gettoken. The token is saved in Documents\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Tokens. Keep it private and create a new one after three months, when it expires.

Which ports does the server use?

UDP 7210 for the game. TCP 7210 serves map downloads and the web panel. Start the server with /port to use another port.

Which game types can I run?

Siege, TeamDeathmatch, Captain, Skirmish, Duel and Battle. Set GameType in the config file and register the maps each type may use with add_map_to_usable_maps.

How much RAM and CPU does a Bannerlord server need?

TaleWorlds recommends 2 cores at 2–3 GHz and 4 GB of RAM for Skirmish and Duel, and 4 cores and 8 GB for Siege, Team Deathmatch and Captain. Each extra server needs its own share.

Where do I put the server settings?

In a text file in Modules\Native, named like the ds_config samples there. Start the server with /dedicatedcustomserverconfigfile and the file name. Commands such as ServerName, GameType, Map and AdminPassword go in that file; start_game_and_mission opens the server and starts the battle.

How does the web panel work?

Open the server address and port in a browser and log in with the AdminPassword. The panel has a management page and a terminal. If you block TCP 7210 to hide it, players can no longer download your custom maps.

How do I manage players during a battle?

Right-click the server and choose Join as Admin. The admin panel changes the map, game type, time limits and player limit after a restart, and applies the welcome message, team balance, friendly damage and class limits at once. You can also kick, ban and mute players and broadcast with /ab.

Can I run custom maps?

Yes. Place them in the Multiplayer module’s SceneObj folder and register them with the Map option or the add_map commands. Only SceneObj content is sent to players, so maps that need prefabs or ModuleData do not work.

Can I use mods on the server?

Custom game modes are built with TaleWorlds’ modding tools. Every player needs the same modules as the server; a module mismatch stops them from joining.

What happens after a game update?

Update the server files as well: players on the current version cannot join a server that runs an older one.
