How much RAM does a Craftopia server need?

The seamless world and large automated factories decide the load more than the number of players.

Pocketpair publishes no server hardware figures; community setups report that 2 GB runs out of memory. These starting points are conservative.

Server settings and saves

Everything the dedicated server needs is in one settings file next to the program.

ServerSetting.ini

World name, difficulty and game mode, the port, the player limit and the password, each in its own section.

Autosaves

The server saves every 300 seconds by default into DedicatedServerSave next to the program.

Creative mode settings

A creative section switches off damage, hunger or stamina limits and enables quick crafting for building sessions.

Password

Turn on usePassword and set serverPassword so only your group can join.

Seamless world

Since December 2023 the dedicated server runs the seamless world; Pocketpair released it on a trial basis and keeps improving it.

Road to 1.0

Craftopia plans to leave Early Access in 2027, alongside a release on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.

Set up your Craftopia server

Four steps to an island that never closes.

  1. Pick a size

Use the table above; large factories need the most memory.

  2. Pick a location

Choose the one closest to your group from our 20 game server locations.

  3. Set the world

Set the world name, difficulty, player limit and password in ServerSetting.ini, or bring your own world.

  4. Join by address

In Craftopia choose Multiplayer, connect by IP and enter the address; add the port if it is not 6587.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
How many players can join a Craftopia server?

The default ServerSetting.ini sets maxPlayerNumber to 7. Change it in the Host section if your group needs a different limit.

Which port does the server use?

UDP 6587 by default, set in the Host section of ServerSetting.ini. Players add the port to the address only if you change it.

Is the dedicated server official?

Yes. Pocketpair publishes the Craftopia Dedicated Server on Steam for Windows and Linux. Since the move to the seamless world in December 2023 it has been released on a trial basis and is still being optimised.

Where does the server keep its world?

Next to the server program: settings and saves moved there from AppData in December 2021. By default the world is saved in the DedicatedServerSave folder.

Can I bring my own world?

Yes. Copy your save into the server’s save folder and set the world name in the GameWorld section to match it; otherwise the server creates a new world. Back up the save first.

How do I protect the server with a password?

In the Host section of ServerSetting.ini, set usePassword to 1 and enter your serverPassword. Without a password anyone with the address can join.

How often does the server save?

Every 300 seconds by default (autoSaveSec in the Save section). Keep regular backups as well, because Pocketpair warns that Early Access updates can affect save data.

Can Xbox players join?

The dedicated server is for the Steam version on PC. Pocketpair plans Craftopia 1.0 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in 2027 and has stopped development for Xbox One.
