Game ID, direct connect and mods
Everything your group needs to play together, whatever store they bought the game in.
Join with a Game ID
By default the server creates a Game ID and players join through Steam’s relay, without opening ports. Keep the ID fixed so it does not change.
Direct connect
Give the server a port and players on every PC store connect with the IP, port and password.
Official mods
Mods come from mod.io in the game menu. Everyone needs the same mods to play together.
World modes
Normal, Hard, Creative or Casual, with your own world name and seed.
Cross-store PC play
Since August 2025, Steam, Epic, GOG and Microsoft Store players can share one dedicated server.
Optional PvP
Since 1.0, PvP and teams can be switched on from the pause menu when your group wants a fight.

Frequently asked questions
How many players can join a Core Keeper server?
Core Keeper is a game for 1 to 8 players, and a dedicated server keeps that world online for your group.
What is the Game ID?
A code the server creates so players can join through Steam’s relay without opening ports. Keep it fixed with the gameid setting; if it is empty or invalid, the server creates a new one at start.
Can players from Epic, GOG and the Microsoft Store join?
Yes. Since August 2025, PC players from Steam, Epic, GOG and the Microsoft Store can share a dedicated server using a direct connection with IP, port and password.
Can I use mods?
Yes. Core Keeper has official mod support through mod.io, and every player needs the same mods. Steam Workshop support opened as a beta in August 2026.
Can console players join my server?
Pugstorm has not announced crossplay between PC and consoles for dedicated servers. The cross-store support covers PC stores.
Do I need to open ports?
Not with the Game ID: the connection goes through Steam’s relay. If you give the server a port for direct connections, that port has to be reachable.
Which world modes can the server run?
Normal, Hard, Creative and Casual, each with your own world name and seed.
Is PvP possible?
Yes. Since version 1.0, optional PvP and teams can be turned on from the pause menu.
