Worlds, settings and modlets
Shape your apocalypse: the map, the difficulty and how the hordes behave.
Navezgane or random gen
Play the hand-made Navezgane map or generate a random world from a seed and a size; ready-made random worlds ship with the game.
Sandbox code
Since V3.0, difficulty, XP, day length, loot and blood moon settings live in one code you build in the game’s Sandbox Options.
Modlets
Put each mod folder with its ModInfo.xml into Mods. XML changes reach players automatically; new icons and assets need a player install.
Crossplay
PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series players can join a dedicated server that runs vanilla with Easy Anti-Cheat and at most 8 players.
Web dashboard and telnet
Manage the server from the web dashboard on port 8080 or over telnet on 8081, and protect both with passwords.
Visibility
ServerVisibility lists the server publicly (2), for friends only (1) or not at all (0).

Frequently asked questions
Can PlayStation and Xbox players join my server?
Yes. PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series players can join a dedicated server that allows crossplay, runs Easy Anti-Cheat, uses no mods and has at most 8 players. The Fun Pimps also set ranges for some game settings on crossplay servers.
How many players can join?
ServerMaxPlayerCount is 8 by default, and crossplay servers stay at 8. A PC-only server can take more, but every extra player adds load, especially on blood moon nights.
What changed for servers in V3.0?
V3.0, released in June 2026, replaced about 30 serverconfig.xml settings, such as difficulty, XP multiplier, day length, loot and blood moon settings, with one SandboxCode. Build the code in the game’s Sandbox Options and paste it into the config.
How do I install mods?
Put each mod folder, with its ModInfo.xml, into the Mods folder of the server. XML-only modlets reach players automatically; mods with new icons, models or asset bundles must be installed by every player.
Can I play on a random world?
Yes. Set GameWorld to RWG with a seed and WorldGenSize, 6144 by default. Since 1.0 the game also ships ready-made random worlds that load without the wait.
Which ports does the server use?
ServerPort is 26900 by default; keep it within 26900–26905 or 27015–27020 so the server shows in the LAN list. The web dashboard uses 8080 and telnet 8081 by default; do not leave them open without a password.
What affects server performance most?
The number of spawned zombies, the blood moon enemy count and view distance, according to the official wiki. MaxSpawnedZombies starts at 64; very high values can bring a server to its knees.
How do players join?
Through the server browser, or with the address and port fields on the browser screen. PlayStation 5 and Xbox players have had a dedicated server browser since V2.0.
Why can a player not connect after an update?
Server and players must run the same game version. A player on a beta or older branch can switch back to the default public version in Steam.
