E-commerce hosting for open-source online stores

Sell online with the open-source store system that fits you: WooCommerce on WordPress, PrestaShop, OpenCart or Magento Open Source. Each has its own PHP, database and search needs. E-commerce plans are being prepared

Tell us which store system you use and how big your catalog is, and our team will reply with the right server. Or start today on a Linux VPS and install E-commerce with our guide.

How big a server does your store need?

Catalog size, visitors and the store system decide the size. Magento brings its own search engine and cache, so it starts larger.

Starting points: the store systems publish software requirements rather than server sizes. Magento runs OpenSearch, Valkey and RabbitMQ next to PHP, and its docs note upgrades can need up to 2 GB of RAM.

A server built around your store

Store systems are picky about PHP versions, extensions and background jobs. On your own server, every one of them is yours to set.

The right PHP for each store

Run PHP 8.5 for Magento 2.4.9 and another version for a WooCommerce shop side by side, each with its own extensions and limits.

Search and caching

OpenSearch for Magento’s catalog search, Valkey or Redis for sessions and cache, and Varnish for full-page caching.

Cron jobs and queues

Order emails, stock updates and indexers run in the background; set up cron and queue consumers as each system documents.

HTTPS on every page

Free Let’s Encrypt certificates for your shop domain; Magento does not accept self-signed certificates.

Staging next to production

Run a copy of the site on a second subdomain to test updates, themes and extensions before they reach your visitors.

Root access, your rules

Every Linux VPS, VDS and dedicated server comes with full root access: you choose the versions, the add-ons and the security settings.

Backups included

Free weekly and monthly backups come with every VPS and VDS plan. For data that changes every day, keep copies of your own as well.

Locations on three continents

Run your server in the United States, Europe or Asia, close to the people who use it. The order form estimates the latency from where you are to each location.

Open your store in four steps

Order the app preinstalled on your server, or install it yourself with our guide.

  1. Choose your server

Pick a VPS, VDS or dedicated server in the size from the table above and the location closest to your users.

  2. Install your store system

Choose it as an app option, or follow our guide: the WooCommerce plugin on WordPress, the PrestaShop or OpenCart package, or Magento with Composer.

  3. Add your domain and TLS

Point a subdomain such as app.example.com at the server’s IP address and serve the app over HTTPS with a free Let’s Encrypt certificate.

  4. Set up payments and email

Connect a payment provider’s module, add SMTP for order emails, set up cron jobs and remove the installer folder where the docs say so.

Step-by-step setup guides

Install, secure and update the app with our guides, written for current Ubuntu and Debian releases.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Which store system should I choose?

WooCommerce if you already use WordPress or want content and shop in one place. PrestaShop for a full store with many modules and its new one-page checkout. OpenCart for a light store that is quick to set up. Magento Open Source for large catalogs, many store views and complex pricing, with a team that can run it.

WooCommerce: WordPress hosting or a VPS?

Our WordPress hosting runs WooCommerce stores well. Choose a VPS when the store grows: many products and orders, your own object cache, background workers for Action Scheduler, or plugins that need settings shared hosting does not allow.

What does Magento Open Source 2.4.9 need?

PHP 8.5, MySQL 8.4 or MariaDB 11.8 or 12.3, OpenSearch 3, Valkey 9, RabbitMQ 4.3, Varnish 8, Nginx and Composer 2.10, on Linux. You also need authentication keys from the Adobe Commerce Marketplace to install it with Composer.

What is Mage-OS?

Mage-OS is a community distribution of Magento Open Source maintained by the non-profit Mage-OS Association. Its releases follow Magento 2.4.9 and install with Composer from the Mage-OS repository without Adobe keys.

What does PrestaShop 9 need?

PHP 8.1 to 8.5 for PrestaShop 9.1 and 9.2, MySQL 5.7 or MariaDB 10.2 or newer, Apache or Nginx, and a PHP memory_limit of 512 MB with extensions such as intl, gd, zip and pdo_mysql. Windows servers are not supported.

Does my store handle card data?

It should not. Use your payment provider’s hosted payment page or embedded fields, so card numbers go straight to the provider and never touch your server. That keeps your security obligations small; the provider’s module for your store system sets this up.

How do I keep my store secure?

Apply security releases soon after they come out, especially for Magento, which has had critical flaws exploited in the wild. Keep admin URLs private, use two-factor login for staff, remove installer folders and back up the database before every update.

Can you move my store to HyperDC?

Migration is free on our Linux VPS plans. We copy the files, media and database, and you switch DNS during a quiet hour once the store works on the new server; take new orders on one server only.
