# Internet radio: put your station on air

> Put your HyperDC internet radio on air: create the station in the client area, upload your music, let AutoDJ play it and share your station page and stream.

Difficulty: Beginner

You manage your internet radio in the radio manager on your service page in the client area: no separate panel to sign in to. Plans: [internet radio hosting](/internet-radio-hosting).

## Step 1: Set up your station

1. In the client area, open **Services › My Services** and select your radio service.
2. Under **Set up your station**, enter the **Station name**. The **Station address** fills in by itself, such as `my-station` followed by the address shown next to it; change it if you like.
3. Choose the **Time zone** your schedule follows and enter the **Genre**.
4. Select **Create Station**.

The radio manager opens with the tabs **On Air**, **Library**, **Programming**, **Live**, **Audience**, **Reach** and **Settings**. The strip at the top always shows what is playing, the number of listeners and **Start** or **Stop**.

## Step 2: Add your music

1. Open **Library** and select **Upload Files**, then choose your music files.
2. The files join the library in a moment. Each track shows its **Title**, **Artist**, **Length** and **Loudness**, measured at upload so every track plays at the same volume.

## Step 3: Go on air

Select **Start** in the strip. The strip shows **AutoDJ** and the title playing. Until you set up a schedule, AutoDJ plays your whole library; see [AutoDJ, playlists and schedule](/guides/radio-hosting-autodj).

**Verify:** **On Air** lists the tracks **Coming up**, each with **Why** it was picked.

## Step 4: Share your station

Open **Reach**. Under **Player and widgets** you find:

- **Station page**: a public page with your player, served over HTTPS. Share this address with your listeners.
- **Embed player** and **Audio tag**: code to put the player on your own website.
- **Now playing JSON**: the current track, for your own site or app.
- **Stream address**: the stream for media players and radio apps.

**Verify:** open the station page in another browser and press play.

## Use your own domain (optional)

1. Under **Own domain**, enter **Your domain**, such as `radio.example.com`.
2. Point an A record or a CNAME to the address shown, then select **Check DNS**.
3. When it shows **Verified**, the certificate follows by itself; the row shows until when it is valid.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need to keep my computer on?

No. AutoDJ plays from the server around the clock. Your computer is only needed when you broadcast live.

### Can the station use my own domain?

Yes. Under Reach, enter a name such as radio.example.com, point it to the station and check it. It gets its own certificate.

### Is the stream encrypted?

Yes. The station page, its player and the stream are served over HTTPS.

### Do I need the rights to the music I play?

Yes. You are responsible for what your station plays, so make sure you hold the rights or licences your country requires.
