# Internet radio: AutoDJ, playlists, clocks and schedule

> Plan what your HyperDC radio plays: sort the Library, build playlists and clock wheels, schedule shows by day and hour, and see why AutoDJ picked each track.

Difficulty: Beginner

AutoDJ plays your station from the server around the clock. You decide what it plays in **Library** and **Programming**, and **On Air** shows what comes next.

## Step 1: Sort your Library

Open **Library**. Search with **Search title or artist** and filter by folder with **All folders**.

- Select tracks with their switches, then **Add To Playlist**, **Move To Folder** or **Delete**.
- **Edit** a track to change its **Title**, **Artist** and **Album**, and its **Cue in (s)**, **Cue out (s)**, **Fade in (s)** and **Fade out (s)**, so silence at the start or end is skipped.

## Step 2: Build playlists

1. Open **Programming** and select **New Playlist**.
2. Enter the **Name** and choose the **Order**: **Shuffle**, **In Order** or **Weighted**.
3. Add tracks from the **Library** with **Add To Playlist**.

A playlist for **Jingles and IDs** keeps your station's jingles apart from the music.

## Step 3: Mix playlists with clocks

A clock is the plan of one hour: which playlists play, and how many tracks of each.

1. Under **Clocks**, select **New Clock** and enter its **Name**.
2. Select **Add Slot** for each part of the hour, choose the playlist and the number of tracks.

**Track separation (min)** and **Artist separation (min)** set how long AutoDJ waits before it plays the same track or the same artist again.

## Step 4: Schedule your shows

1. Under **Schedule**, select **New Show** and enter the **Title**.
2. Choose the **Kind**: a **Playlist**, a **Clock**, a **Live Slot** for a presenter or a **Relay** of another stream.
3. Choose the **Days**, the **Start (HH:mm)** and the length in **Minutes**, or **Once on (yyyy-MM-dd)** for a single date.

The times follow the station's time zone. When a show starts, AutoDJ cuts to it on time.

Under **What AutoDJ plays without a show**, choose **Whole Library**, a **Playlist** or a **Clock** for the hours no show covers.

## Step 5: Check what comes next

Open **On Air**. **Coming up** lists the next tracks with **Why** AutoDJ picked each one, **Recently played** shows the last ones with their listeners, and **Requests waiting** holds song requests to **Approve** or **Reject**.

To take requests, open **Audience** and switch on **Take song requests**. **Approve each request first**, **One request per listener every (min)** and **A song again after (min)** keep them in check.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does AutoDJ play when no show is scheduled?

What you choose under What AutoDJ plays without a show: the whole library, one playlist or one clock.

### How do I stop the same song or artist repeating?

Set Track separation and Artist separation in minutes. AutoDJ then waits at least that long before it plays the same track or artist again.

### Can listeners request songs?

Yes. Under Audience, switch on Take song requests. You can approve each request first and limit how often a listener may ask.

### Why are some tracks louder than others?

They should not be: every track's loudness is measured at upload and evened out towards the Loudness target in Settings.
