# Automatic replies on Linux hosting: set an out-of-office message

> Answer mail while you are away on HyperDC Linux hosting: turn on an automatic reply for a mailbox in the client area, write its message, then switch it off.

Difficulty: Beginner

Any mailbox of your Linux hosting service can answer incoming mail by itself, for example while you are on holiday. You set the reply in the **Mail** tab of your service page; see [email on Linux hosting](/guides/linux-hosting-mail) for the mailbox itself.

## Turn on an automatic reply

1. Open **Mail** and select **Edit** next to the mailbox.
2. Switch on **Answer every message automatically**.
3. Enter the **Subject** and the **Message** of your reply, such as when you are back and whom to write to meanwhile.
4. Select **Save Mailbox**.

The mailbox list shows **Auto Reply** for that mailbox while the reply is on.

**Verify:** send a message to the mailbox from another address. The automatic reply arrives there.

## Turn it off

Select **Edit** next to the mailbox, switch off **Answer every message automatically** and select **Save Mailbox**.

## Next steps

- Read and answer mail in the browser: [webmail on Linux hosting](/guides/linux-hosting-webmail).
