# Install WordPress on Windows hosting

> Install WordPress in one click on HyperDC Windows hosting: open Applications on your service page, choose the site and folder, then set your admin user.

Difficulty: Beginner

WordPress runs on PHP, and your Windows hosting plan installs it for you. The installer creates its database, so all you choose is where it goes and who the admin is.

## Before you start

- Your domain points to the hosting account; see [point a domain to your server](/guides/point-domain-to-server).
- The folder you install into holds nothing you need. If it does, [back it up](/guides/windows-hosting-backup-restore) first.

## Step 1: Start the installer

1. On your service page, open **Applications**.
2. In the **Application catalogue**, find **WordPress** and select **Install**.

## Step 2: Fill in the form

1. **Website:** the site to install on.
2. **Folder:** `httpdocs` for your main domain's front page, or a folder inside it.
3. **Site title:** the name of your site.
4. **Admin user**, **Admin e-mail** and **Admin password:** your WordPress login. Keep the password somewhere safe.
5. Select **Install** and wait until it finishes.

## Step 3: Open your site

The new site appears under **Installed applications** with the state **Installed** and its **Address**. Select **Open Admin** to sign in.

**Verify:** the address shows your new site, and the admin area accepts your login.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I have to create a database first?

No. The installer creates a new database for WordPress.

### Can it go into a folder such as /blog?

Yes. Enter that folder in the Folder field. Files already in the folder may be replaced, so choose an empty one or back it up first.

### Will every plugin work?

Most do. Your site runs on IIS, which does not read .htaccess files, so a plugin that relies on .htaccess rules may not work as it describes. If your site depends on such plugins, choose WordPress hosting on Linux.
