# Install WordPress on Linux hosting

> Install WordPress in one click on HyperDC Linux hosting: open Applications on your service page, choose the site and folder, then set your admin user.

Difficulty: Beginner

WordPress installs in one click on your Linux hosting service. The installer creates the database, puts the files in place and sets up your admin user.

## WordPress plans: sign in with one click

On a WordPress hosting plan, WordPress is installed when your service is set up. Open the **WordPress** tab of your service page: **WordPress Center** lists every WordPress on your service. Select **Sign In** next to a site to open its dashboard in one click; no password is stored for it. **Manage** opens the site's own tools.

To install WordPress on Linux web hosting, or another copy on your WordPress plan, follow the steps below.

## Before you start

- Your domain points to the server; see [first steps on Linux hosting](/guides/linux-hosting-first-steps).
- The site you install into exists in **Websites** and has a PHP version set.

## Step 1: Start the installer

1. Open **Applications** on your service page.
2. Under **Application catalogue**, select **Install** next to WordPress.

## Step 2: Fill in the form

1. Choose the **Website**.
2. Leave **Folder** empty to install at the root of the site, or enter one such as `blog`. Files already in that folder may be replaced.
3. Enter the **Site title**, the **Admin user**, the **Admin e-mail** and the **Admin password**.
4. Select **Install**. A new database is created for WordPress, and the installation shows **Installing** until it is done.

> **Warning**
>
> Use a long, unique admin password. It is the key to your whole site.

## Step 3: Open your site

When the state is **Installed**, the list under **Installed applications** offers:

- **Open Site**: your new site.
- **Open Admin**: the WordPress dashboard.
- **Manage**: the WordPress tools of the **Performance** tab for this installation.

**Verify:** `https://example.com` shows the WordPress start page, and **Open Admin** signs you in to the dashboard.

## Run scheduled events from the server

WordPress runs its scheduled jobs, such as publishing planned posts, when visitors load pages. To run them on time instead:

1. Open **Performance** and choose the site.
2. Under **WordPress optimizer**, open **Tuning**.
3. Next to **Scheduled events**, select **Switch On** and confirm.

The events then run from the server every 5 minutes, and the row shows when they last ran.

## Remove an application

Select **Remove** next to the installation. Choose whether to **Delete its files** and **Delete its database**, then select **Remove Application**. This cannot be undone.

## Next steps

- HTTPS for the new site: [free SSL on Linux hosting](/guides/linux-hosting-ssl).
- Other applications in one click: [PrestaShop, OpenCart, Joomla, Drupal, Moodle and Laravel](/guides/linux-hosting-one-click-apps).
- Faster pages: [the page cache](/guides/linux-hosting-wordpress-cache).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need to create a database first?

No. The installer creates a new database for WordPress and writes its details into wp-config.php.

### Can I install WordPress in a folder, such as /blog?

Yes. Enter the folder in the form; the site then opens at example.com/blog.

### What does running scheduled events from the server change?

WordPress normally runs its scheduled jobs when a visitor loads a page, which slows that page down and misses jobs on a quiet site. From the server they run every 5 minutes, on time.

### How do I sign in to WordPress?

On a WordPress plan, select Sign In in the WordPress tab: one click, with no password stored. Otherwise select Open Admin next to the installation, or open example.com/wp-admin and sign in with the admin user you set.
