# Notifications in the client area

> What the notifications menu in the HyperDC client area shows: invoices, ticket replies, service and domain events, the unread count and Mark all as read.

Difficulty: Beginner\
Tested on: HyperDC client area

The notifications menu in the top bar of your client area lists what needs your attention: an invoice to pay, a reply on a ticket, a service that is ready or suspended, a domain that expires soon. This guide explains what appears there and how to clear it.

## Before you start

- Sign in to the client area. The notifications belong to the client account you are signed in to.
- You can reach every item in the menu from its own page too, for example **Billing › My Invoices** or **Support › Tickets**.

## Step 1: Open the notifications

Look at the top bar: the notifications icon (a small triangle) shows a number when there is something unread. Select it to open the menu.

![The notifications menu opened from the top bar, with an overdue invoice and a new ticket reply marked unread, a service that is ready, and Mark all as read](https://hyperdc.com/templates/hyperdc/img/docs/notifications-in-the-client-area/drawer.en.webp "The notifications menu: unread items are highlighted; Mark all as read is at the top. Content is sample data.")

The menu, headed **Notifications**, lists the newest items first. Each item has a title, a short text and, for event notifications, when it happened (for example "5 days ago"). Unread items are highlighted and carry a coloured dot.

## Step 2: Understand what appears

Two kinds of items share the list.

**Account notices** describe the current state of your account and stay as long as it applies, for example:

- unpaid or overdue invoices, with the number and the amount due;
- domains that expire within the next days;
- a saved card that expires soon;
- services that can be renewed soon, or credit on your account.

**Event notifications** tell you that something happened, for example:

- **Invoice #… is ready**, **Invoice #… is due soon**, **Invoice #… is overdue** and **Payment received for invoice #…**;
- **New reply on ticket #…**;
- a service **is ready**, **is suspended**, **is active again** or **was terminated**, a **Cancellation request received**, and a service that **renews in 7 days**;
- a domain that **is registered**, **was renewed**, **expires in … days** or **expires tomorrow**.

Select an item to open the page it is about: the invoice, the ticket, the service or the domain. Opening an unread event notification marks it as read.

## Step 3: Mark notifications as read

Select **Mark all as read** at the top of the menu. Event notifications lose their highlight and the number in the top bar goes down.

**Verify:** the count in the top bar now shows only account notices. Those disappear on their own once the matter is settled, for example when you pay the invoice ([pay an invoice](/guides/pay-an-invoice)) or renew the domain ([domain renewal and auto-renew](/guides/domain-renewal-and-auto-renew)).

When nothing is waiting, the menu says **You have no notifications at this time.**

> **Note**
>
> Notifications do not replace our emails. Invoices, ticket replies, welcome emails and reminders still arrive by email; you find every message we sent under the account menu › **Email History** ([email history](/guides/email-history)).

## Troubleshooting

**The number stays after I marked everything as read.** The remaining items are account notices. Open them and settle the matter, for example pay the overdue invoice.

**A notification I expected is missing.** Check that you are signed in to the right client account. Notices about a ticket or invoice belong to the account the ticket or invoice belongs to. The email arrives in any case; check **Email History**.

**The menu shows only account notices.** Event notifications are loaded when you open the menu. If the list stays short, reload the page and open the menu again.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do notifications replace our emails?

No. Invoices, ticket replies and service emails are still sent to your email address as usual. The notifications menu is an extra overview inside the client area.

### Why does the number not go to zero after Mark all as read?

Mark all as read marks the event notifications as read. Account notices, such as unpaid invoices or domains that expire soon, stay in the list and in the count until you deal with them.

### Who sees the notifications?

Notifications belong to the client account, not to a single user. When one user marks a notification as read, it is read for the account.

### Can I turn notifications off?

The menu has no settings of its own. Which emails you and your contacts receive is set in the email preferences of your account and contacts.
