Bugbear publishes no server hardware figures for Wreckfest 2; these are starting points for an Early Access server.

Playlists, cups and lobby rules

Bugbear adds server features with almost every content update; these are in the game today.

Event playlists

Since Content Update 6 the server keeps its events as .becl files in the save folder; default_loop.becl holds every event and can be changed while the server runs.

Cups

server_cup_config.ccnl defines each cup’s playlist, point distribution and car restrictions; players vote on the next cup.

Spec lobbies

Since Content Update 7 a server can turn off car upgrades and tuning and force the inboard camera.

Admins and moderators

The Steam account that starts the server becomes admin automatically, and admins and moderators ban players from the player list.

Password and privacy

Protect the lobby with a password; the server’s address is no longer shown in the lobby.

Telemetry

The dedicated server supports telemetry output for tools such as SimHub.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Does Wreckfest 2 have a dedicated server?

Yes. Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Server is a free Steam tool, app 3519390, which Bugbear calls the community server. Since Content Update 7 it ships with a server configuration guide.

How many drivers can join?

Wreckfest 2 runs multiplayer races and derbies with up to 24 players and bot support. The maximum number of participants and the bot count are set per event in the playlist file.

Which port does the server use?

The game port in server_config.scnf, 30100 over UDP by default. Every server on a machine needs its own port and its own save folder.

Which files hold the settings?

server_config.scnf holds the name, description, password, port and cup settings. Events live as .becl playlists in the save folder, and server_cup_config.ccnl defines the cups.

Who is admin on the server?

Since Content Update 7 the Steam account that launched the server is promoted to admin automatically, and a setting turns this off. Admins and moderators can ban players from the player list.

How do cups work?

Each cup in server_cup_config.ccnl has its own playlist, point distribution and car restrictions. Since Content Update 6 players vote on the next cup.

What is a spec lobby?

A lobby where car upgrades and tuning are turned off, so everyone races the same cars. Since Content Update 7 a server can also force the inboard camera.

Can I use mods?

Not yet. Bugbear plans mod support during Early Access or at the 1.0 launch at the latest.

Can I protect the lobby with a password?

Yes. Servers can have a password since the first update in March 2025, and the server’s address is no longer shown in the lobby.

Does the server need updates?

Yes. Wreckfest 2 is in Early Access and updates often; keep the server on the same version as your players so they can join.

Which platforms can join?

Today Wreckfest 2 is on PC through Steam. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions are announced for the 1.0 release.
