Matching versions

Server and game must run the same version, so the server is updated after every patch. The Beta Test branch does not support dedicated servers.

No mods

The game was not made with modding in mind, and there are no current plans for mods.

Is there an official Voyagers of Nera server?

Yes. The free Voyagers of Nera (Dedicated Server) tool has been available since the Early Access launch in September 2025. It appears in your Steam library when you own the game and runs on Windows.

How many players can join?

Up to 10. The store page and the official FAQ describe the game as designed for up to 10 players together.

Which ports need to be open?

Treehouse Games asks self-hosters to forward port 7778, the game port plus one; with the default game port of 7777 that is 7778. If you change the game port, forward the port after it.

How do players join?

By direct connect with the address and password, or with an invite code.

Which gameplay settings can I change?

CustomGameUserSettings.ini holds GatheringRateMultiplier, EnemyDamageMultiplier, PlayerDamageMultiplier and XPGainRateModifier, switches such as DisableDropItemsOnDeath, DisableEquipmentDurability and DisableConstructionRequirements, and a weather toggle.

Can I take my character to the server?

Yes, if it was created while you were online with Steam: those characters move between single player and multiplayer. Characters made fully offline cannot be moved.

Why can players not join after a patch?

The server and the game must run the same version, so update and restart the server after every patch. The Beta Test branch does not support dedicated servers.

Can I use mods?

No. The official FAQ says the game was not created with modding in mind, and there are no current plans for mod support.

Can console players join?

No. Voyagers of Nera is on PC through Steam; consoles are only a hope for the future in the official FAQ.

Does the server run on Linux?

The dedicated server is a Windows program, BoatGameServer.exe. Treehouse Games offers no Linux build.
