How much RAM does an Unturned server need?
Players, the map and Workshop content decide the load. Plugins and many vehicles add more.

Smartly Dressed Games publishes no server hardware figures; these are starting points. Large Workshop maps, many vehicles and plugins raise memory use.
Workshop, plugins and game settings
The official server covers maps, mods and rules; community plugin frameworks add admin tools and new gameplay on top.
Workshop maps and mods
List file IDs in WorkshopDownloadConfig.json. The server downloads them with their dependencies at start, and players get them automatically when they join.
RocketMod (LDM)
Smartly Dressed Games keeps RocketMod alive as Legally Distinct Missile and ships it with the server: copy Extras/Rocket.Unturned into Modules.
OpenMod
A newer plugin framework that can run next to RocketMod plugins. Install it with the installer plugin or by copying OpenMod.Unturned into Modules.
Commands.dat
Name, map, password, player limit, difficulty, PvE, perspective and the owner’s Steam ID, one command per line.
Server codes and Fake IP
Players can join with a 17-digit server code or through Steam’s relay with Fake IP, without port forwarding. A login token keeps the code fixed.
BattlEye
BattlEye guards servers against cheats; operators can turn it off for a private group.

Frequently asked questions
How many players can join an Unturned server?
MaxPlayers in Commands.dat accepts 1 to 200 and defaults to 8; Smartly Dressed Games’ own example uses 24. Large maps and many plugins need more memory as the player count grows.
Which ports does the server need?
Two UDP ports in a row: Port, 27015 by default, and the next one. Space several servers two ports apart, such as 27015, 27017 and 27019. Since 3.23.14.0, forwarding is only needed for joining by IP or domain.
Do I need a Game Server Login Token?
Yes, for a server on the Internet list. Create one for app ID 304930 on Steam’s game server page and set it as Login_Token or with the GSLT command. Without it the server is anonymous, hidden from the Internet list, and its server code changes at every restart.
What is a server code?
A 17-digit code players enter to join without port forwarding. It stays the same only when the server has a login token.
How do I add Workshop maps and mods?
Put the Workshop file IDs into WorkshopDownloadConfig.json under File_IDs. The server installs and updates them at startup, and players download them automatically when they join. For a Workshop map, also set its name as the map in Commands.dat.
Can I use RocketMod or OpenMod plugins?
Yes. Smartly Dressed Games maintains RocketMod as Legally Distinct Missile and ships it with the server; copy Extras/Rocket.Unturned into the Modules folder. OpenMod can run alongside it and is installed with /openmod install or by copying OpenMod.Unturned into Modules.
How do I make myself admin?
Add Owner with your SteamID64 to Commands.dat. You can then use Admin and Unadmin, Kick, Ban and Unban, Save and Shutdown; cheat commands such as Give need Cheats turned on.
Where are the server settings?
Each server has its own folder under Servers. Commands.dat holds the name, map, port, password and player limit; gameplay settings are in Config.txt for servers created since 3.25.8.0, while older servers keep Config.json.
Can console players join a PC server?
The dedicated server runs the PC version for Steam players on Windows, macOS and Linux. The PlayStation, Xbox and Switch editions are separate versions, and Smartly Dressed Games documents no crossplay with PC servers.
How do I stop the server without losing progress?
Use the Shutdown command, which saves before it stops. Save writes the world at any time, for example before you take a backup.
