Frequently asked questions
How many players can join a Return to Moria server?
Eight players can be online at the same time. The limit is fixed, with no max-players setting, but any number of players can belong to the world and take turns.
Can console players join my server?
Yes. Players on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can all join the same dedicated server.
Which port does the server use?
7777 by default, set in the [Host] section of MoriaServerConfig.ini. Players can also join with the invite code instead of the address.
Can I bring my existing world?
Yes. Copy the MW_*.sav file from %LocalAppData%\Moria\Saved\SaveGamesSteam (or SaveGamesEpic) to the server’s Moria\Saved\SaveGamesDedicated folder. Do not rename it, and note that the copies do not sync afterwards.
How do I set a password and the world name?
In MoriaServerConfig.ini: OptionalPassword in the main section and Name in the world section. The server shows the world name as its name.
Can I limit what players may build?
Yes. MoriaServerPermissions.txt sets build and storage permissions per player, and the console commands block and unblock keep unwanted players out.
Which difficulty settings are there?
Story, solo, normal, hard and custom. Change them later with setdifficulty or setcustomdifficulty in the server console.
What does LoadedAreaLimit do?
It sets how much of Moria stays loaded around your players, from 4 to 32, with 12 as the default. Higher values keep more of the world active and use more memory.
Does the server get the Durin’s Folk content?
Yes. The Durin’s Folk expansion arrived in November 2025, and patch 1.6.7 followed in February 2026 with more worker threads for dedicated servers. Keep the server on the same version as your players.
