Staxel plans are being prepared

Tell us how many friends play and which mods you use, and our team will reply with the options. Or open a ticket and we will let you know when the plans are online.

How big should a Staxel server be?

Staxel is a light server; the number of players and the size of the village decide the load.

Plukit publishes no server hardware figures; these starting points follow common practice for a small co-op game.

Server options, mods and admin

Staxel’s server is set with a few clear options; no config file to learn.

Start options

Name, password, player limit, port, world name and creative mode are set with options such as --name, --password and --storage.

Workshop mods

Install mods with the mod manager on the server too. Cosmetic mods download from the server; mods with code must be installed by every player.

Admins

The first player to join becomes admin, and /op makes others admins. Admins can kick, ban, mute and teleport.

Public or private

Add --public to list the server for everyone, or keep it private and share the address and password with friends.

Creative mode

Start the world with --creative to build freely, or switch a player with /creativeMode.

Classic edition only

The server runs the classic PC game. Staxel CE is a separate edition, and classic players cannot join CE games.

Set up your Staxel server

Four steps to a village that is always open.

  1. Pick a size

Use the table above: most groups of up to 8 friends are well served by 3 GB.

  2. Pick a location

Choose the one closest to your players from our 20 game server locations.

  3. Name your world

Set the server name, world name, player limit and a password, and add your mods.

  4. Invite your friends

Share the address, port 38465 and the password. The first one to join becomes admin.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Does Staxel have a dedicated server?

Yes. Staxel.Server.exe ships in the game’s bin folder. You can also start it from Steam’s Dedicated Server launch option or the launcher’s Server button, which opens the Server Wizard.

What does the server need to install?

The server comes with the game, so SteamCMD installs it from Staxel’s own app 405710 with a Steam account that owns the game. The wiki recommends a separate account for the server.

Which port does the server use?

TCP 38465 by default. Change it with --port, or let --upnp open it on routers that support UPnP.

Which settings can I change?

Staxel uses start options instead of a config file: --name, --password, --playerlimit, --port, --public, --storage for the world name, --creative and --upnp. The Server Wizard sets the same values.

How do I become admin?

The first player to join becomes admin. Use /op with a name to make others admins. Admin commands include /kick, /ban, /unban, /mute, /tp, /weather and /spawnitem.

Can I use mods on the server?

Yes. Mods from the Steam Workshop and the Staxel mod manager must be installed on the server as well. Cosmetic mods download from the server when players join; mods with code must be installed by every player.

Can Staxel CE players join?

No. The server runs the classic PC edition. Staxel CE is a separate, lighter edition, and patch 1.5.62 added an error when a classic client tries to join a CE game. The Switch version does not play with PC either.

Does the server run on Linux?

Windows is the supported platform. The wiki describes running it on Linux with Mono, but calls that unofficial and unsupported.

Is Staxel still updated?

The last update of the classic game, 1.5.63, came out in September 2021, and no updates have followed since. The game is still sold on Steam, and its server works as it is.

How do I stop the server without losing progress?

Stop it with Ctrl+C in the console; the server saves the world before it shuts down.
