StarRupture plans are being prepared

Tell us how many of you play and how big your bases get, and our team will reply with the options. Or open a ticket and we will let you know when the plans are online.

How big should a StarRupture server be?

A server holds up to 4 players, so the size of your factory base decides the load. Creepy Jar has noted lower stability with 4 players in large bases.

Creepy Jar publishes no server hardware figures; these starting points follow from the 21 GB server install and the 16 GB of RAM the studio recommends for the game itself.

Co-op, saves and server management

StarRupture’s dedicated server is managed from inside the game, and Creepy Jar keeps improving it with each update.

Four-player co-op

Play alone or in a group of up to four on one planet, with the base always there when you return.

Server Management

Players manage the session on a running dedicated server from the game’s Server Management option.

Pause when empty

Since hotfix 0.2.1 the game pauses when all players leave, so nothing happens to the base while you are away.

Autosave interval

Since Update 2, the autosave interval set by a player also applies on the dedicated server.

Experimental and improving

The server has received stability fixes in every update since launch; it is not available for the public test branch.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Does StarRupture have a dedicated server?

Yes. Since the Early Access launch in January 2026, Creepy Jar offers a free dedicated server on Steam (app 3809400). It is still marked experimental and runs on Windows.

How many players can join a StarRupture server?

Up to 4. StarRupture is played alone or in a group of up to four friends.

What does experimental mean for my server?

The dedicated server works, but Creepy Jar is still fixing issues, such as crashes when loading large saves, which were addressed in Update 2 and its hotfixes. Keep the server updated with the game.

How do I manage the server?

From the game: the Server Management option lets players manage the session on a running dedicated server, for example to load a save or change the autosave interval.

Does the world keep running when nobody is online?

No. Since hotfix 0.2.1 the game pauses when all players leave the session, so your base waits for you.

Can I play on the public test branch?

No. Creepy Jar does not provide a dedicated server for the public test branch, so the server always runs the main game version.

Does the StarRupture server run on Linux?

The dedicated server is a Windows build, so it runs on a Windows server.

Is StarRupture still in Early Access?

Yes. It launched in Early Access in January 2026, followed by Update 1 in April and Update 2 in September 2026, with hotfixes since.
