How big should a Skyrim Together server be?

The server only relays what the players’ games do, so it stays small. Player count and premium mode raise the load.

Server settings, mods and admin tools

STServer.ini decides how your shared Skyrim plays; the console gives you control while it runs.

Gameplay rules

Set the difficulty from Novice to Legendary, PvP, XP sync, gold loss on death and the speed of in-game time.

Load order check

With bEnableModCheck, players must match the load order in the server’s Data/loadorder.txt before they can join.

SKSE and Mod Organizer 2

Allow or block players who use SKSE or Mod Organizer 2. The team advises against extra mods for stability.

Server console

List players and mods, set the time and date, add or remove admins and stop the server from the console.

Private or listed

Set a password for your group, or list the server publicly; servers with a password never appear in the list.

Premium mode

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Which version of Skyrim do we need?

Skyrim Special Edition on Steam, version 1.6.117x, is the only supported version. The Anniversary Upgrade is not required. Skyrim VR, Legendary Edition, console, Epic and Game Pass versions are not supported.

How many players can join a Skyrim Together server?

There is no hard limit; uMaxPlayerCount in STServer.ini sets it. The Skyrim Together team recommends 2 to 8 players for the best experience.

Which port does the server use?

10578 by default, set with uPort. The official guide opens it for both TCP and UDP.

Can we play with mods?

The team recommends playing without other mods for stability, and Creation Club content should not be used on public servers. If your group uses mods, turn on bEnableModCheck so every player must match the load order in the server’s Data/loadorder.txt.

How do I make someone an admin?

Type /AddAdmin with the player’s name in the server console; an underscore stands for a space. /RemoveAdmin takes the role away and /admins lists all admins.

Which console commands are there?

/players and /mods list who is online and what is loaded, /SetTime and /SetDate change the in-game clock and calendar, /uptime shows the running time and /quit stops the server.

Can players fight each other?

Only if you allow it: bEnablePvp in STServer.ini lets players damage each other, shouts included.

How do I set the difficulty?

uDifficulty enforces one difficulty for everyone, from 0 (Novice) to 5 (Legendary).

Does the Skyrim Together server run on Linux?

Yes. The Skyrim Together server runs on Windows and Linux; the team also documents a Docker setup for Linux.

How do I keep strangers out?

Set sPassword in STServer.ini. A server with a password is never shown in the public server list, so only players you give the address and password can join.
