SCUM server hosting with your own rules
Run your own SCUM island: decide the loot, the economy, the raid times and when, or whether, to wipe. Since version 1.0 the official server files are free on Steam, so your rules are no longer tied to a partner host.

SCUM plans are being prepared
Tell us your player count, PvP or PvE and how often you want to wipe, and our team will reply with the options. Or open a ticket and we will let you know when the plans are online.
How much RAM does a SCUM server need?
Gamepires notes that the load depends on players and the number of NPCs and puppets in the world. Bases and vehicles add up over time.

Gamepires publishes no hardware figures and says the server runs on modern systems; the SCUM wiki names at least 8 GB of RAM. These starting points add room for a growing island.
Rules, loot and admin tools
A private SCUM server is set up with ini files and JSON files in SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer.
ServerSettings.ini
Server name, password, playstyle, messages, damage and spawn multipliers, all with the scum. prefix.
Loot, economy and quests
Since 1.0, JSON files shape the loot tables and the traders’ economy, and you can write your own quests.
Admins and lists
ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini opens the in-game settings screen; user lists cover admins, bans, a whitelist and reserved slots.
Raid times
Decide when bases can be raided, so players are not attacked while they sleep.
Wipes on your terms
Official partial wipes are not enforced on private servers; partial, gold and full wipe settings are yours to use.
BattlEye
SCUM switched from Easy Anti-Cheat to BattlEye in May 2025; servers run with it by default.

Frequently asked questions
Can I run my own SCUM server?
Yes. With version 1.0 in June 2025, Gamepires released the server files on Steam as the free SCUM Server tool (app 3792580). Before that, private servers were only available through partner hosts.
How many players can a SCUM server hold?
You set the limit with the -MaxPlayers launch argument, which overrides ServerSettings.ini. Gamepires raised its official servers from 64 to 80 players in July 2026; plan memory and CPU for the number you choose.
Which ports does SCUM use?
Three UDP ports: the game port (7777 by default), the game port +1 and the query port at the game port +2. Players who connect directly use the address with the query port, 7779 by default.
Where are the server settings?
In SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer. ServerSettings.ini holds the main settings with the scum. prefix; loot, economy, quests and raid times are JSON files in the same folder tree.
How do I add admins?
Put your Steam ID in ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini to use the in-game server settings screen. Admins for in-game commands go into AdminUsers.ini; commands start with #, for example #ListPlayers.
Can I make the server whitelist-only?
Yes. ExclusiveUsers.ini lets only the listed Steam IDs join, while WhitelistedUsers.ini gives players a reserved slot. Bans are kept in BannedUsers.ini.
Do I have to wipe my server?
No. Gamepires’ partial wipes apply to official servers and are not enforced on private servers. The server has partial, gold and full wipe settings if you want them.
Can I use mods?
Not officially. Gamepires has said mod support will not arrive in 2026. What you can change today are the settings, loot tables, economy and custom quests.
Does the SCUM server run on Linux?
The official server is a Windows build. It runs on a Windows server; Linux setups depend on compatibility layers that Gamepires does not support.
Which anti-cheat does SCUM use?
BattlEye, since May 2025, when SCUM moved away from Easy Anti-Cheat.
Can console players join?
No. SCUM is a PC game on Steam; the console versions announced in 2023 have not been released.
