## How big should a RedM server be?

Scripts and streamed assets such as horses, clothing and map edits decide most of the load, more than the slot count.

Cfx.re recommends an x86-64 Linux or Windows server with good upstream and a multi-core CPU but publishes no memory figures; these starting points follow common practice.

## txAdmin, frameworks and resources

Everything on a RedM server is a resource; frameworks give roleplay servers their characters, jobs, money and inventory.

### txAdmin

The web panel that ships with the server, on port 40120. It deploys the RedM Basic Server or the VORP Core recipe and needs a linked Cfx.re account.

### VORP Core

A complete roleplay recipe with jobs such as sheriff, medic and hunter, inventory, character creator, economy, housing and stables.

### RSG Core

A framework for players, characters, money, jobs, gangs and permissions, built on oxmysql and ox\_lib.

### Your own resources

Write resources in Lua, JavaScript or C#, each with its fxmanifest.lua, and start them with ensure in server.cfg.

### OneSync

Cfx.re’s sync layer on top of the game’s network code. A default server runs 48 slots with OneSync Infinity.

### Database

Frameworks keep characters, money and items in a MySQL or MariaDB database through oxmysql.

## Set up your RedM server

Four steps from server key to the first riders in town.

1. ### Get a server key
Create a free key for your server in the Cfx.re portal.
2. ### Choose slots and location
Use the table above for the size, and pick the closest of our 20 game server locations.
3. ### Deploy a recipe
In txAdmin, link your Cfx.re account and deploy RedM Basic Server or VORP Core; on a plain server, set gamename rdr3 and your resources in server.cfg.
4. ### Open the frontier
Players start RedM and find your server in the server list, or connect with its address.

### What is RedM?

RedM is the multiplayer modification for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC from Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, which became part of Rockstar Games in 2023. It lets communities run their own dedicated servers with custom scripts.

### Do I need a key for a RedM server?

Yes. Every server needs a free key from the Cfx.re portal, set as sv\_licenseKey in server.cfg or entered in txAdmin.

### How many slots can a RedM server have?

A server supports up to 48 players with OneSync Infinity by default. Cfx.re’s paid Element Club tiers raise this: Argentum to 64, Aurum to 128 with OneSync Infinity and Platinum up to 1024.

### How does the server know it runs RedM?

RedM uses the same FXServer as FiveM. The line set gamename rdr3 in server.cfg switches it to Red Dead Redemption 2; the RedM recipes in txAdmin set it for you.

### Which ports does RedM use?

30120 on TCP and UDP for the game, and 40120 for the txAdmin web panel. Protect txAdmin with a strong password.

### txAdmin or a plain server?

txAdmin gives you a web panel to deploy recipes, watch players, restart on a schedule and read logs. A plain server is managed through server.cfg and the console, which suits owners who keep their setup in files.

### Which framework should I choose?

VORP Core and RSG Core are the two common RedM roleplay frameworks. VORP has a ready txAdmin recipe; RSG Core builds on oxmysql and ox\_lib. Pick the one your scripts are written for.

### Do I need a database?

For a roleplay framework, yes: VORP and RSG store characters, money and items in MySQL or MariaDB through oxmysql. A freeroam server without a framework can run without one.

### What do players need to join?

A PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the RedM client from redm.net. They find your server in the RedM server list or connect with its address.

### Does the RedM server run on Linux?

Yes. Cfx.re builds the server for Windows and Linux on x86-64 and recommends a multi-core CPU with good upstream bandwidth.
