How much RAM does a Longvinter server need?

The official wiki asks for a 3 GHz CPU and at least 3 GB of memory. Players, tents and bases add to that over time.

Rules, admins and restarts

Game.ini holds everything that shapes your island, from the name in the list to how long tents last.

PvE or PvP

Switch PvP on or off, and use CoopPlay for a shared, co-op style server.

Tents and decay

MaxTents limits how many tents a player may place, and TentDecay lets abandoned tents disappear over time.

Admins by EOS ID

List admins in AdminSteamID with their EOS IDs, separated by spaces; admins kick and ban from the in-game admin panel.

Daily restart

RestartTime24h sets a daily restart time, and SaveBackups keeps backups of the world.

Name, tag and message

ServerName, ServerTag, ServerRegion and ServerMOTD decide how your island shows up and greets players.

Traders and chests

Turn wandering traders off with DisableWanderingTraders and set how fast chests refill with ChestRespawnTime.

Set up your Longvinter server

Four steps to your own island.

  1. Pick a size

Start from the table above; 32 players is the default limit.

  2. Pick a location

  3. Set your rules

Stop the server, then set ServerName, Password, PVP, the tent rules and your admins in Game.ini.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
How many players can join a Longvinter server?

MaxPlayers in Game.ini is 32 by default, and the official documentation names no hard cap. More players need more memory and CPU.

Which ports does the server use?

The game uses UDP 7777, set with -GamePort. The official FAQ also lists port 27016 over TCP and UDP for the Steam query.

Why are my Game.ini changes lost?

The server saves about every 10 minutes and writes its settings back, so changes made while it runs are overwritten. Stop the server, edit Game.ini and start it again.

How do I add admins?

Put the admins’ EOS IDs in AdminSteamID, separated by spaces. Despite the name, the setting takes EOS IDs, not Steam IDs.

Can I run a PvE server?

Yes. Set PVP to false for a peaceful island, or true when players may fight. CoopPlay suits groups that build together.

How do I keep the number of tents under control?

MaxTents limits the tents per player and TentDecay lets abandoned tents decay. Both help keep the world tidy and the server light.

Can the server restart and back up on its own?

Yes. RestartTime24h sets a daily restart time, and SaveBackups keeps backups of the world save in the Longvinter/Saved folder.

What are the older server branches for?

Uuvana keeps older versions as Steam branches for mod compatibility. Use them only when your modded players stay on that version too.

Is Longvinter still updated?

Yes. Version 1.0 came out in February 2025, and the Wild Growth update added the Teijo area in April 2026. Update the server with SteamCMD app 1639880 when your players update.
