Killing Floor 2 plans are being prepared

Tell us your game modes and the Workshop maps you want, and our team will reply with the options. Or open a ticket and we will let you know when the plans are online.

How big should a Killing Floor 2 server be?

Player counts are small, but every wave spawns many Zeds the server has to run. Fast cores and room for Workshop maps matter most.

Tripwire publishes no server hardware figures; these starting points follow common practice for Unreal Engine 3 servers. Large Workshop collections need extra disk space.

Modes, Workshop and web admin

Pick your mode, load custom maps from the Workshop and run the server from your browser.

Survival, Weekly and Versus

Six players fight wave after wave in Survival, Weekly brings changing outbreak rules, and Versus puts players on the Zed side too.

Steam Workshop

Add Workshop item IDs as ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems in KFEngine.ini and put the Steam Workshop download manager first; the server downloads the maps.

Web admin

Turn on the built-in web admin in KFWeb.ini and manage players, maps and settings in your browser on port 8080.

Map cycle and votes

GameMapCycles in KFGame.ini sets the maps, and map voting lets players choose the next one.

Passwords

GamePassword locks the server and AdminPassword protects admin access.

Message and banner

Greet players with ServerMOTD and show your own image with BannerLink.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
How many players can join a Killing Floor 2 server?

Six players in the co-op modes and twelve in Versus. MaxPlayers in KFGame.ini sets the limit.

Which ports does the server use?

7777 UDP for the game, 27015 UDP for Steam queries, 20560 UDP for Steam and 8080 TCP for the web admin when you turn it on.

How do I add Workshop maps?

In KFEngine.ini, add each Workshop item ID as ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems and make the Steam Workshop download manager the first entry under the net driver. The server downloads the maps; add them to your map cycle.

How do I use the web admin?

Set bEnabled to true in KFWeb.ini, restart and open the server address on port 8080 in your browser. Log in with the admin password from KFGame.ini.

Can Epic players join my server?

Yes. Steam and Epic Games Store players have played together since July 2020. Epic players cannot download Workshop content, so they can only join servers that run official maps.

How do I set the game length and difficulty?

GameLength in KFGame.ini sets short, medium or long games, and the difficulty is set alongside it. Weekly outbreaks bring their own rules.

How do I lock the server?

Set GamePassword in KFGame.ini. Players then need the password to join; AdminPassword protects admin access separately.

Is Killing Floor 2 still updated?

The last content patch arrived in February 2024. Tripwire still runs events such as XP weekends, and the dedicated server remains available on Steam for Windows and Linux.
