How much RAM does a HumanitZ server need?

Players, zombie numbers and the size of your bases drive the load. Start small and grow with your group.

The developers publish no server hardware figures; these starting points follow common practice for Unreal Engine survival servers. Large bases and many zombies raise memory use over time.

Rules, admins and saves

One config file shapes the whole server, from the name and password to the rules of the world.

GameServerSettings.ini

The host settings hold the server name, password, player limit, admin password and save name; the world settings hold the rules. A reference copy ships with the server.

PvE or PvP

Decide whether survivors may fight each other, and tune zombies, loot and the day cycle to the challenge your group wants.

Admin password

Admins unlock their rights in the game with the admin password and can then save the world, shut the server down or help players.

Optional RCON

Turn on remote console access with its own port and password to manage the server without joining.

Family Sharing switch

Since update 1.04, server owners can block players who join through Steam Family Sharing.

Saves and backups

The world is a save file in the server’s Saved/SaveGames folder; stop the server or save first, then copy it.

Set up your HumanitZ server

Four steps to a world that waits for your group.

  1. Pick a size

Use the table above for your group, and plan more memory for PvP servers with many players.

  2. Pick a location

Choose the one closest to your players from our 20 game server locations.

  3. Set your rules

Stop the server, fill in GameServerSettings.ini with your name, password, player limit, admin password and world rules, then start it again.

  4. Invite your players

Players find the server in the in-game list or join with its address and password.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
How many players can join a HumanitZ server?

You set the player limit in the host settings of GameServerSettings.ini. More players and zombies need more memory and CPU, so size the server with the table above.

Which ports does the server use?

7777 for the game and 27015 for Steam queries by default, set with the -port and -queryport launch options. If you turn on RCON, it needs a port of its own.

Did version 1.0 need a new world?

Yes. HumanitZ left Early Access with version 1.0 on 6 February 2026, and private servers had to update and start a fresh save. Saves from before 1.0 do not carry over.

How do I become an admin on my server?

Set an admin password in GameServerSettings.ini. In the game, unlock admin rights with that password through the admin command in chat; you do this once per session.

Can I choose between PvE and PvP?

Yes. The world settings decide whether players can hurt each other, along with zombie numbers, loot respawn and the speed of the day cycle.

How do I change settings safely?

Stop the server before you edit GameServerSettings.ini, save the file and start the server again. Changes made while it runs can be lost.

How do I back up the world?

The world is stored as a save file in the server’s Saved/SaveGames folder, with the name set in the host settings. Save or stop the server, then copy the folder.

Can I stop Family Sharing accounts from joining?

Yes. Update 1.04 added a server option that blocks players who play through Steam Family Sharing, which helps against banned players returning on shared accounts.

How do updates work?

The developers ship regular patches, and version 1.1 has been in experimental testing since August 2026. Update the server with SteamCMD app 2728330 when your players update, so versions match.
