Maps, plugins and server settings
Valve’s server runs the official game; SourceMod and custom maps let your community shape it.
Still updated by Valve
February 2025 brought 64-bit support; the August 2026 update fixed maps being skipped in the map cycle and custom map assets on Linux.
SourceMod
Admin menus, bans, stats and map votes, loaded through Metamod:Source.
Custom maps and FastDL
Add maps to dod/maps and the map cycle; sv_downloadurl lets players fetch them quickly over HTTP.
server.cfg
Hostname, passwords, time limits and team rules in dod/cfg/server.cfg, run at every start and map change.
SourceTV
A spectator slot that relays the round with a delay and can record demos.
VAC
Secure servers use Valve Anti-Cheat; -insecure turns it off for a LAN event.

Frequently asked questions
Is Day of Defeat: Source still updated?
Yes. Valve added 64-bit support in February 2025, fixed map cycle and Linux issues in August 2026 and released another fix in September 2026.
Which ports does a DoD:S server use?
The game and RCON use 27015 by default and SourceTV uses 27020 when it is on. Change them with -port and +tv_port when the server starts.
How many slots should I choose?
You set the slots with -maxplayers. Clan matches need a small server; public servers usually run 24 to 32. Start with the table above and adjust.
Why were maps skipped in my map cycle?
Valve fixed a bug in August 2026 where the server could skip maps because the level change was called more than once. Keep the server updated to get the fix.
Can I install SourceMod?
Yes. Install Metamod:Source first, then SourceMod into dod/addons. Keep both current, because plugins must match the server build after Valve updates.
How do I add custom maps?
Put the .bsp files into dod/maps and list them in the map cycle. Set sv_downloadurl to a web address with the same files so players download them over HTTP.
Where do I put my server settings?
In dod/cfg/server.cfg, which runs at every start and map change: hostname, sv_password, rcon_password, mp_timelimit and team rules.
Is VAC enabled on my server?
Yes. Secure servers use Valve Anti-Cheat. Starting the server with -insecure turns VAC off, for example for a LAN event.
