Atypical Games publishes no server hardware figures and the server is still in beta; these starting points are our conservative estimate.

How the dedicated server works

The dedicated server is a separate application, configured through a settings file and updated alongside the game.

Separate server app

Cubic Odyssey Dedicated Server sits in the Tools section of a Steam library that owns the game and is free for PC owners.

Session ID

The owner shares the server’s session ID with the people they want to invite.

Server characters

Each player creates a character for the server; progress and inventory are saved there, even if the server restarts.

Difficulty settings

Since January 2026, admins can raise or lower damage and crafting costs on a dedicated server.

A living galaxy

The world keeps evolving while the server runs, so it may look different when you come back.

Shared ships

Since February 2026, players can share ships with each other.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
Does Cubic Odyssey have a dedicated server?

Yes. Atypical Games released dedicated servers in October 2025 as a beta. The server is a separate application, free for PC players who own the game, and it is still being improved with the game’s updates.

How many players can join?

Up to 20 players per server, more than a session hosted from a player’s own game.

How do my friends join?

The server owner shares the server’s session ID with the players they want to invite.

Can I bring my existing character?

No. Every dedicated server needs its own character, and that character’s progress and inventory stay on that server.

Does the world keep running when the owner is offline?

Yes. Players can play while the owner is away, as long as the server is running, and the world keeps evolving in the meantime.

Which settings can I change?

The owner sets the game mode and a password in the server’s settings file. Since January 2026 there are also difficulty settings for damage and crafting costs.

Can I play the story on a dedicated server?

No. Story game modes cannot be started on a dedicated server; an October 2025 update closed that path. Dedicated servers are for the open game.

Does Cubic Odyssey support mods?

The game has had Steam Workshop integration since update 1.2 in November 2025. Ask us before you plan a modded server, because the dedicated server is still in beta.
