Server, sync and mods
What Terad Games has built into Astro Colony’s multiplayer, and what that means for your server.
Official server tool
Astro Colony Dedicated Server is a free tool on Steam, separate from the game, so the colony runs without a player hosting it.
Big stations in sync
Version 1.0 splits large stations into smaller packages when it syncs them, so you can build much bigger without worry.
Server-controlled miners
Since the 2026 multiplayer update, miners are controlled by the server, which keeps every move valid for all players.
Smooth joining
Cosmic events, vehicles and other systems pause while a new player joins, and an in-game sync option resends all planets.
Workshop and modkit
Astro Colony supports the Steam Workshop, and Terad Games publishes an official modkit for creators.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Astro Colony dedicated server?
Yes. Terad Games publishes Astro Colony Dedicated Server as a free tool on Steam (app 2662210), separate from the game. It runs AstroColonyServer.exe.
Does the server run on Linux?
Terad Games released a Linux dedicated server on Steam in April 2024, next to the Windows server.
Has Astro Colony left Early Access?
Yes. Astro Colony entered Early Access in November 2022 and version 1.0 came out in June 2026.
How many players can join?
Terad Games does not publish a fixed player limit for the dedicated server. Tell us how many people will build together and we will size the server for your group.
Can we build very large stations online?
Version 1.0 syncs large stations in smaller packages and matches client visuals to the server, so much bigger stations work in multiplayer than before.
What changed in multiplayer after 1.0?
The August and September 2026 updates made miners fully server-controlled, added an in-game sync option and pause the world while a new player joins. Terad Games tested client simulation at latencies of up to 1000 ms.
Can we use mods?
Astro Colony supports the Steam Workshop and has an official modkit. Agree on the same content with your group, and check a mod’s page for multiplayer notes before you add it.
What does the in-game sync option do?
It resends all existing planets and their states from the server, which helps when something on a client looks out of date.
