How much RAM does an Abiotic Factor server need?

The game is built for six players. Explored parts of the facility, big bases and extra slots raise the load.

Deep Field Games publishes no server hardware figures. These starting points are derived from the 5 GB install and the six-player design; large bases and extra slots need more memory.

Crossplay, sandbox settings and admins

What you can change on an Abiotic Factor server, and what your team should know.

Crossplay

Steam, PlayStation and Xbox players can join the same server. Start it with -PlatformLimited to keep it to one platform.

Sandbox settings

Each world has a SandboxSettings.ini for difficulty, hunger and thirst, loot respawn, day length, death penalties and damage between players.

Admins and passwords

List Steam IDs under [Moderators] in Admin.ini, or set -AdminPassword so console players can become admins too. -ServerPassword keeps strangers out.

Bring your world

Copy a Steam single-player or hosted world into the server’s Worlds folder and load it with -WorldSaveName.

Hardcore mode

One life per character on Apocalyptic difficulty, for teams that want the hardest run.

Online or LAN

Run the server for the internet, or start it with -LANOnly so it appears in the LAN browser only.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Send us a message and our team will reply by email.
How many players can join an Abiotic Factor server?

Abiotic Factor is a co-op game for 1 to 6 players. The dedicated server accepts 1 to 24 with -MaxServerPlayers, but the developers do not recommend more than 6, and players see a warning before they join a larger server.

Can PlayStation and Xbox players join?

Yes. Steam, PlayStation and Xbox players can share one dedicated server. Start the server with -PlatformLimited=PC, Playstation or Xbox if only one platform should join; PC means Steam only.

Which ports does an Abiotic Factor server use?

The game port is 7777 (-PORT) and the Steam query port 27015 (-QUERYPORT), which advertises the server in the browser. Servers started with -LANOnly are found on the local network through port 14001.

Can we move our existing world to the server?

Yes, from Steam. Copy the world folder from %LocalAppData%\AbioticFactor\Saved\SaveGames\(your Steam ID)\Worlds into the server’s Saved\SaveGames\Server\Worlds folder, then rename it to Cascade or load it with -WorldSaveName. PlayStation, Xbox and Game Pass saves cannot be moved to a dedicated server.

How do I make someone an admin?

Add their Steam ID under [Moderators] in Admin.ini, one Moderator= line per player. Steam IDs do not work for PlayStation and Xbox players, so also set -AdminPassword: players who enter it in the game become admins.

Which rules can I change?

SandboxSettings.ini holds the sandbox options of a world: difficulty from Normal to Apocalyptic, hardcore mode, loot respawn, day and night length, hunger, thirst, food spoilage, death penalties, enemy health and damage between players.

Can we fight each other on the server?

Damage between players is set with DamageToAlliesMultiplier, 0.5 by default. The official guide says 1.0 or more is needed for real player-versus-player fights.

How do I keep strangers out?

Set a password with -ServerPassword. It is separate from the admin password, so friends can join without getting admin rights.

Does the server run on Linux?

The official Abiotic Factor Dedicated Server Tool (Steam app 2857200, anonymous SteamCMD download) is a Windows program. For Linux, the developers point to a community guide.

Why is my server not in the server browser?

The query port must be reachable, because it advertises the server on Steam. Do not start the server with -NOSTEAM, which the official guide warns against.
