Forex VPS for MetaTrader 4 and 5

Expert Advisors only run while the MetaTrader terminal is open and connected. A Windows VPS keeps MetaTrader 4 or 5 running around the clock, independent of your computer, your power and your home connection. Choose a HyperDC location close to your broker’s trading server and connect with Remote Desktop from anywhere.

How big a Windows VPS does MetaTrader need?

Windows itself needs room; each terminal, chart and Expert Advisor adds to it. Backtesting uses every core you give it.

MetaQuotes publishes no fixed hardware figures: the need depends on charts, instruments and MQL programs. These sizes leave room for Windows and grow with each terminal you add.

Why traders run MetaTrader on a VPS

MetaQuotes notes that Expert Advisors need a constant connection to the trade server and an uninterrupted power supply. A server in a data center provides both.

Always on

The terminal keeps running through power cuts, restarts and travel at home, so your Expert Advisors never stop because a laptop closed.

Close to your broker

Pick the location nearest to your broker’s trading server and compare the ping shown in the terminal’s status bar.

Several terminals side by side

Run separate MetaTrader installations for each account or broker, each in its own folder, on one server.

Remote Desktop from anywhere

Check and adjust your terminals from Windows, macOS, iOS or Android with a Remote Desktop client.

Snapshots before changes

Windows VPS plans include free snapshots: save the server before a Windows update or a new EA and roll back if needed.

Dedicated IPv4 address

Linux and Windows VPS plans include a dedicated IPv4 address for your domain, your TLS certificate and your firewall rules.

Backups included

Free weekly and monthly backups come with every VPS and VDS plan. For data that changes every day, keep copies of your own as well.

Why run MetaTrader on a VPS?

Expert Advisors and scripts only run while the terminal is open and connected. MetaQuotes notes that they need a constant connection to the trade server and an uninterrupted power supply; a VPS keeps the terminal running when your own computer is off or offline.

Which location should I choose?

The one closest to your broker’s trading server, because that is the connection your orders travel over. Ask your broker where its servers are, and compare the ping MetaTrader shows in its status bar. The locations available for each plan are listed on this page and in the order form.

MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5?

Your broker and your account decide: both terminals are still offered and updated by MetaQuotes, and both run on the same Windows VPS. Expert Advisors written in MQL4 run only in MetaTrader 4, those in MQL5 only in MetaTrader 5.

Can I run several accounts on one VPS?

Yes. Install one terminal per account or broker, each in its own folder, because two copies cannot run from the same folder. Plan memory for every terminal and the charts it keeps open.

Which Windows version should I choose?

A current 64-bit Windows from the versions listed for your plan; MetaTrader no longer receives updates on older Windows releases. The Windows versions available for each plan are listed on this page and in the order form, and you choose one when you order.

How is this different from MetaTrader’s built-in virtual hosting?

MetaQuotes’ virtual hosting moves selected charts and Expert Advisors to its own servers, where DLL calls are not allowed. A Windows VPS is a full Windows server: run several terminals and brokers, use DLLs and your own tools, and work on the desktop yourself.

Do you give trading advice or work with brokers?

No. We provide and support the server only. We do not give trading or investment advice, do not recommend brokers and have no arrangements with any of them.

Can I run MetaTrader on Linux instead?

MetaQuotes documents installing both terminals on Ubuntu and Debian through Wine with its own scripts. It works, but Windows is the platform the terminals are built for, and Expert Advisors that use DLLs are simpler to run there.
