Ask about an appEvery app runs on a HyperDC VPS, VDS or dedicated server with full root access. Plans appear on each page as soon as they are online.
What a server adds to your CMS
Shared hosting runs PHP sites well. A server of your own adds Node.js, background workers, search engines and the freedom to choose every version.
The runtime your CMS expects
Install the PHP or Node.js version and the database the CMS supports, and upgrade them on your schedule instead of a shared host’s.
Caching under your control
Add OPcache, Redis or Valkey, a page cache or Varnish where the CMS supports them, and tune them for your traffic.
Staging next to production
Run a copy of the site on a second subdomain to test updates, themes and extensions before they reach your visitors.
Root access, your rules
Every Linux VPS, VDS and dedicated server comes with full root access: you choose the versions, the add-ons and the security settings.
Preinstalled or with our guide
Choose the app as an option when you order and it is installed for you, or set it up yourself with our step-by-step guide.
Backups included
Free weekly and monthly backups come with every VPS and VDS plan. For data that changes every day, keep copies of your own as well.
Locations on three continents
Run your server in the United States, Europe or Asia, close to the people who use it. The order form estimates the latency from where you are to each location.
Room to grow
Start on a VPS and move to a bigger plan, a VDS with NVMe storage or a dedicated server when your data and users grow.
Which server fits your CMS?
Traffic, the number of editors and the extensions you add set the load more than the CMS itself. Start here and grow with your site.

Starting points: the projects publish software requirements rather than server sizes, except Ghost (at least 1 GB of memory) and Magento, whose search engine needs memory of its own. Busy sites need more.

-
Pick your CMS
Open the pages below to compare what each system is built for and what it needs on the server.

What is the difference between a traditional and a headless CMS?
A traditional CMS such as Drupal, Joomla or Ghost stores your content and also renders the pages visitors see. A headless CMS such as Strapi or Directus only stores and delivers content through an API; your own front end, mobile app or static site generator displays it.
Which CMS should I choose?
For a blog or a newsletter with paid members, Ghost. For a site with many content types, roles and languages, Drupal or Joomla. For content that feeds an app or a JavaScript front end, Strapi or Directus. For a store, WooCommerce if you already use WordPress, otherwise PrestaShop, OpenCart or Magento Open Source.
Do I need a VPS, or is web hosting enough?
PHP systems such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OpenCart and PrestaShop also run on our Linux web hosting. Choose a VPS when you need Node.js (Ghost, Strapi, Directus), a search engine such as OpenSearch for Magento, background workers, or versions and settings a shared server does not allow.
Can you move my existing site?
Migration is free on our Linux VPS plans. Tell us which CMS you run and where it is hosted, and we will reply with the steps. Keep the old site online until the new one works, then switch your DNS.
How does the CMS send email?
Password resets, staff invitations, order confirmations and newsletters need outgoing email. Connect the CMS to an SMTP service or a transactional email provider, and add SPF, DKIM and DMARC records to your domain so messages reach the inbox.
Who updates the CMS?
You do, with full root access. Apply security releases soon after they come out, update extensions and themes with the core, and take a backup before each major upgrade. A staging copy on a second subdomain lets you test first.
Can I run several sites on one server?
Yes. A web server such as Nginx or Caddy serves each site on its own domain, and each CMS gets its own database. Give each busy site enough memory, and keep sites of different customers in separate system users.
Is port 25 open on my VPS?
Outbound port 25 is closed by default on HyperDC VPS. For services ordered for a term of 3 months or longer, we open it on request: open a support ticket. Until then, send through an SMTP relay on port 587. A relay or email service also helps your mail reach the inbox.
